File Sharing

Today we can do a lot of cool stuff with technology. Things we take for granted (like MP3 Players or downloading songs and creating custom playlists and mix CDs) couldn't have been done even five years ago. That's amazing! And with all the cool stuff we have at our fingertips, our generation has a responsibility unlike any other.

Think about that. Your parents, aunts, uncles and possibly your older brothers and sisters probably never had to worry about intellectual property. Think about it, they listened to music on 8-tracks and cassettes! But today, it's easier than ever to share that music, a lot.

So why shouldn't you? First of all, and for good reason, it's against the law. People who create music and movies own them. Secondly, buying them legally supports a lot of people whose work makes them possible like other musicians, producers, writers, and grips (whatever they are). If we didn't protect the people who create the stuff we like, such as books, movies and music, we wouldn't have them. And that would suck big time, because I couldn't handle a world where I couldn't have access to my faves. Or even worse, a world still filled with 8-tracks, cassettes and 45s. So respect the artist. Respect your new social responsibility. If you want it, then buy it. Legally.

Use legal download sites to get your music instead of borrowing and ripping CDs. Don't install file sharing programs to go steal music. Right now, it's just as easy and really cheap to do the right thing and buy your music. You'll be supporting the artist and getting the music you love.
